What Exactly Is a Fjord?

There are a few requirements for a geological feature to be a fjord. Though there are similar geographical features throughout the world, the fjord is a specific formation and without any of the following aspects, it cannot be considered a fjord.

A fjord is an inlet from the sea or some other body of water
Fjords have sheer cliffs on either side of them
The rock walls or cliffs must have been formed because of glacial activity

Costa Cruises – This company is based out of Hollywood, CA but they offer just as much insight into the region as the two Norwegian companies.
