NCL Cruises

The NCL, or, Norwegian Cruise Line is the most highly acclaimed cruise services in the world. They were formed in 1966 out of Norway and saw tremendous success sailing cruise ships to Miami, so they bought up a few more ships and started cruises out of Miami. Purchased in 2000 by the company known as Star Cruises at the time, (currently Genting Hong Kong), Norwegian Cruise Lines developed the revolutionary “freestyle” accommodation plan. Virtually any enjoyable relaxation activity would be available ranging from black tie events to bowling onboard one of their eight new cruisers since acquisition. NCL phased out older ships that weren’t geared for the “freestyle” focus and since then, only the Norwegian Sky remains of the old fleet, offering cruises out from Miami to the Bahamas.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Early Days

Klosters Rederi A/S is the Norway shipping company that had initially started NCL by crafting a single cruiser. Klosers Rederi A/S was also the oldest and most widely respected shipping company across all of Norway at the time, and still holds their reputation today. Based near a Norwegian town called Oslo, the founders of the Norwegian Cruise Line added four more ships to their fleet before the end of 1971.

With New Ownership Comes New Ideas

It was in the year 2000 when the Norwegian Cruise Line owners decided that it’d be a good investment to sell the company to an Asian company known as Star Cruises. Currently, Star Cruises operates under the name Genting Hong Kong. This company was and still is the largest Asian cruise line in the world and with their acquisition of NCL, they’ve only broadened their horizons. Since the Genting Hong Kong buy-out, the Norwegian Cruise Lines have seen a tremendous number of improvements and souring profits. For instance, since the year 2000, there have already been eight new ships purchased and put on the fleet including the:

  • Norwegian Dawn
  • Norwegian Epic
  • Norwegian Gem
  • Norwegian Jade
  • Norwegian Jewel
  • Norwegian Pearl
  • Norwegian Spirit
  • Norwegian Star

One of the main reasons why so many new ships have been able to be purchased is the implementation of a new style of cruising called “freestyle”. Basically this means that all amenities under the sun are provided and cruisers are able to pick and choose what they like. Whether your ideal cruise consists of relaxing, getting sun between dips in a dock-side pool or if you want to rock-climb or even bowl, the Norwegian cruise line fleet has the accommodations to satisfy.

Remarkable Dining Experiences

Another facet of the “freestyle” experience is in fine dining whenever and for whatever you like. Norwegian Cruise Line is committed to satisfying the needs and wishes of all of their passengers: they’re able to do this by keeping both domestic and exotic foods readily stocked and they employ only master chefs who’ll be able to prepare your food exactly how you like it. Buffets, multi-course dinner banquets and much more are in store for you when cruising Norwegian Cruise Lines!
